Health and legal officials have debated as to whether the term "toxic mold" is accurate. Only in rare cases have deaths been reported from toxigenic molds that are found in an indoor building. These molds produce certain mycotoxins that are poisonous but the molds themselves are not considered poisonous. Still many states have passed laws for ﾑtoxic mold' regulation and may lawsuits have been filed claiming that toxic mold was the cause of someone's death or serious illness. The symptoms of toxic mold exposure are similar to basic mold exposure. Patients may first experience respiratory problems such as difficulty breathing, sinusitis, headaches, fatigue, anemia and coughing. The symptoms usually do not get better and the doctor may misdiagnosis the mold exposure and attributes it to other illnesses. In severe cases, mold exposure can cause death. The best way to determine mold exposure is to have your home inspected for mold.
