Lead Pollution

In the early 70s, lead was everywhere - in our paint, in our gasoline and in our water. However since leaded gasoline was phased out and the Environmental Protection Agency banned lead based paint in 1978, it may seem like the danger disappeared. However, lead pollution is a problem now due to runoff that may have seeped into the soil. This can affect children who love to play barefoot in the dirt and gardeners who plant in lead contaminated soil. In some cases this can lead to lead poisoning. Symptoms of lead poisoning include: Stomach cramps, Headache , Metallic taste in the mouth, Chest pain, Lethargy. In severe cases, lead poisoning can cause impotence and reproductive problems. Some patients report weight loss and stomach problems including vomiting. Anyone who believes they have been exposed to lead pollution and have these symptoms should contact a doctor as soon as possible.
