Arsenic Skin

Arsenic has no taste or smell so if you are being exposed to arsenic, you may not notice. However there are some subtle changes to your skin that may be signs of chronic arsenic ingestion. Those arsenic skin changes include a darkening on the skin and pre-cancerous skin growth that appear on the soles of your feet and the palm of your hands. Skin lesions are commonly reported in cases where high levels of arsenic has been found in drinking water - up to 100,000 cases worldwide. And in Wisconsin, where the water has high levels of arsenic, an increase in the number of skin cancer cases has been reported. Because of the arsenic skin changes and other health problems related to arsenic exposure, the Environmental Protection Agency has issued guidelines for the amount of arsenic in water. Unfortunately, those guidelines only apply to public water systems. Many people who get their water from a private well may not know they have high arsenic levels in their drinking water.
